Professor Peter Olufemi Adeniyi, (OON) served as vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure from 2002 to 2006. Adeniyi attended the Federal Survey School, Oyo, 1966; University of Ife, 1969; International Institute of Aerial Survey and Earth Sciences, Enschede, The Netherlands, 1971; 1973; University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, 1978

He received the Nigerian National Honour Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in 2005. He was Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the University of Ado Ekiti, now Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Nigeria. He was the winner of the John I. Davidson Award (Third Prize) donated by the International Geographic Information Foundation in 1984. Adeniyi was the First President of the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE). He is a member of the Global Ocean Observing Committee, President, Nigeria Society for Remote Sensing, 1984-87; Secretary, International Society for Photo-grammetry and Remote Sensing, Commission VI, 1984-88; Finance Committee, Board of National Agricultural Land Development Authority on World Bank Assisted Federal Environmental Protection Agency Programme on Environmental Information Systems for Nigeria; International Aeronautical Federation Committee for Liason, International Organisations and Developing Nations, 1991-94
